This ending is loosely based on Ezra Stiles, a Newport minister and one of the leading intellectuals of the colonies. Stiles advocated the Patriot cause in his sermons and writings. He strongly disapproved of the Stamp Act, but also worried about the violent nature of some Stamp Act protests. He claimed to have no involvement in the Stamp Act riot. Read his thoughts on the Stamp Act here.

Stiles left Newport during the American Revolution and preached in New Hampshire for a year before becoming President of Yale College in 1778, a position he held until his death in 1795.
