Stamp Act Notebook, 1765
A Concurrence of Motives
Caused the Parlt to pass the American
Stamp Act  Feb. 27 1765
To which the Royal Assent was given 22 March 1765
Which has sealed the Loss of American Liberty
Diffused a Disgust thro the Colonies
and laid the Basis of an Alienation
Which will never be healed.
Henceforth the European + American Interests
Are Separated
Never more to be joyned.

Sermon, 1766
Such was the public Spt in america at this important Crisis, that there is little Room to doubt that if the unhappy Act had been enforced, several fatal Consequences would have ensued. Without all doubt an Army would have spread Desolation + Bloodshed throughout america. And no one can foresee to how great a height this would have risen among a pple wc such a Measure would soon have rendered desperate. And American Civil War would have taken place; Proscriptions upon Proscriptions-all American in Confusion + rolling in Blood. But the subject is too melancholy to pursue."
