Swallow goes on to a successful career in politics--he signs the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation. He becomes a Rhode Island Supreme Court Judge and later a tax collector in Newport. He also becomes an ardent abolitionist. He dies in Newport of old age in 1820.
