Swallow moves to England but returns to North American to settle in Nova Scotia, hoping the abundance of land will lead to more opportunity. His property in Newport is confiscated and the profits are put toward the Patriot cause. At the end of the war, Loyalist refugees flock to Nova Scotia. Since the refugees are among the first British settlers in the area, they struggle to establish the same comforts they enjoyed in the colonies. After almost a decade, he writes to a friend in Newport asking if he could safely move back to Newport given his political beliefs. Although his friend responds that he could safely return, but he never does.
