Some of the men whose homes had been destroyed left Newport and sailed to Nova Scotia, and then traveled to various parts of the British Empire. A large number of Loyalists settled in Nova Scotia after the war, including Newporter Mr. Murray. Murray wrote home in 1790 asking if he would be able to return to Newport without being harassed for his political views. Read his letter here. Although his friend did assure him he could return, it is not clear whether he did return or not.
