On the morning of August 27, 1765, a group of men march to the town common in front of the Colony House and hang three effigies on hastily constructed gallows-- one of tax collector August Johnston, the others of Martin Howard and Thomas Moffat, other defenders of Parliament's right to tax the colonies.
Johnston, Howard, and Moffat all flee to a ship in the harbor. Swallow and his friends guard the effigies long after the crowd has dispersed. Should they go home, or liven things up to make their point stick?
