Swallow lives in Newport until he is offered a lucrative position as Judge of the Superior Court of Vice Admiralty for the Southern District in Charleston, South Carolina. He moves around during and after the war. Even so, he is heavily in debt when he passes away in 1790, leaving his wife and children destitute and begging his former friends for money.
