This ending is loosely based on John Robinson. Robinson was the tax collector for Rhode Island. Before the Stamp Act riot, he became unpopular for his strict enforcement of customs. When he seized the merchant ship Polly for not paying proper import taxes, the ship's owner jailed and sued him for damages to the cargo. When the suit was brought, he had to spend a night in jail before a friend bailed him out. He was reassigned to a post in Boston and traveled to England in the wake of the 1770 Boston Massacre.
